Desire Lines & Subvertising Norway invite you to reclaim the streets !
Subvertising Norway is a non-profit network of artists and activists raising awareness about who has the power to communicate messages and create meaning in public space through acts of creative subversion and art-based activism. Guided by the basic principle that the visual realm in public space belongs to everyone, this workshop will provide you with the tools and know-how to actively participate in shaping our shared public spaces. Paper, paint, brushes and markers will be provided, as will the opportunity to participate in installing the works on the street.
This workshop is a part of Desire Lines Artists-in-Residence Program: a new city initiative for independent public artists. For one week international artists who specialize in producing site-specific and ephemeral public artworks will demonstrate how human-scale, intervention-based street art practice can offer an alternative to the predominant form of large-scale, resource-heavy muralism. Touching upon the paradigms of degrowth, sharing economy, rights to the city and intangible heritage, temporary artworks will replace monolithic public art sculptures, and in the process point to new potentialities for the diversity of expression in our shared public spaces in Oslo.
This project is supported by Oslo´s Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Car Free City Life Program.
